Welcome to the New River Libertarians
website!
The New River Libertarians is the local Libertarian
Party affiliate committee in the New River Valley
area (in particular, for Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and
Pulaski counties).
The Libertarian Party believes in individual liberty
and personal responsibility. We believe that governments
at all levels are too big, too intrusive, and too expensive.
We are working to reduce government to its proper constitutional
role: to protect the rights of the people, and otherwise
leave us alone.
Become Involved!
If you live in the New River Valley area, and if you believe in individual liberty and personal responsibility, please become involved with the NRL. A list of our upcoming activities appears below. Please contact NRL secretary Anne Panella for more information. In particular, please let us know if you want your e-mail address to be added to our e-mail announcement list.
If you would like to join the Libertarian Party and the Libertarian Party of Virginia, please visit the LP website at www.lp.org and the LPVa website at www.lpva.com.
NRL Officers
The officers of the New River Libertarians are: Shawn Meek of Draper, chair; Lauren Meek of Draper (Pulaski County), vice chair; Anne Panella of Pembroke (Giles County), secretary/treasurer.
LP Presidential Ticket: Gov. Gary Johnson and Judge Jim Gray
The Libertarian Party national convention nominated Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico to serve as our 2012 presidential candidate. The convention also nominated Jim Gray, former California Superior Court judge, to serve as our vice presidential candidate. For more information, please see www.garyjohnson2012.com and www.lp.org.
NRL member Jim Lark wins Thomas Paine Award
NRL member Jim Lark of Pulaski is the recipient of the 2012 Thomas Paine Award from the Libertarian Party. The award is given at LP biennial conventions to the activist deemed the most effective communicator. Dr. Lark, a member of the Libertarian National Committee and a former national LP chairman, is also the recipient of the 2004 Samuel Adams Award (given to the most effective activist) and the 2008 Thomas Jefferson Award (the Party's highest honor, given for lifetime achievement). He is the only person to win each of the three national awards.
